End of Life Education Consortium (ELNEC)

The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project is a national education initiative to improve palliative care.  The project provides undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, CE providers, staff development educators, specialty nurses in pediatrics, oncology, critical care and geriatrics, and other nurses with training in palliative care so they can teach this essential information to nursing students and practicing nurses.

 

Education in Palliative & End of Life Care (EPEC)

EPEC offers train the trainer programs, education, and online learning.
The
EPEC Curriculum combines didactic sessions, videotape presentations, interactive discussions, and practical exercises. It teaches fundamental palliative care skills in communication, ethical decision-making, psychosocial considerations, and symptom management. The materials and their take-home messages can be easily adapted to teach interdisciplinary audiences.

 

Certification for nurses: 

National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses

NBCHPN® is the only organization that offers specialty certification for all levels of hospice and palliative nursing care and administrators.  Each certification is valid for a four year period at which time the certificant may renew their credential. 

NBCHPN® currently offers the following five certification exams:

  • Advanced Certified  Hospice and Palliative Nurse exam (ACHPN®) exam
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse exam (CHPN®) exam
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nurse exam (CHPLN®) exam
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Nursing Assistant (CHPNA™) exam
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA) exam

 

Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association

HPNA is a membership organization with individual membership levels for the Advanced Practitioner, Generalist Nurse, LP/VN, Nursing Assistant and Associate (non-nursing). HPNA offers members specialty nursing resources, information, and direction.  Evidence-based educational tools are available to help with complex symptom management, managing grief & bereavement, peer support, having difficult conversations, educating about hospice or palliative care.

 

City of Hope Pain/Palliative Care Resource Center (COHPPRC)

The purpose of the COHPPRC is to serve as a clearinghouse to disseminate information and resources to assist others in improving the quality of pain management and end of life care. The COHPPRC, established in 1995, is a central source for collecting a variety of materials including pain assessment tools, patient education materials, quality assurance materials, end of life resources, research instruments and other resources.
